Hoppin' Math

Delaney has been working on addition and subtraction, and a little action with your learning is always a good thing, not to mention a little outdoor time for some added interest.

I drew a number line on the back porch, and demonstrated how it works. Then, I began giving her math problems..."What's 1 + 4?" Hop, hop, hop, hop, - "5!"

 

It worked beautifully, and it was fun, too.

If you turn around and hop the other way, you turn it into subtraction!

"What's 8 - 2?" Hop, hop - "6!"

Since then, we rewrote the numbers and hopped to count by 2's, 10's and 5's. It's become a favorite math time activity.
